How long have you known about RAAM? How long afterwards did you decide to enter the race?  What triggered your decision?

I have known about RAAM for about 3 years having seen a documentary on TV. It was another 2 years before I entered as part of a 4 man team last year though riding solo was always the main agenda.

Athletic history (cycling results & other):

Prior to cycling I spent many years climbing taking part in early climbing competitions in the early 90's. I have climbed throughout Europe, ice climbed frozen waterfalls in Norway and in 2000 attempted the North face of Everest.

I have been cycling for a little over 4 years starting initially with Mountain Biking racing the 130 mile ChristAlp Grand Raid in verbier. After this I moved on to road racing and gained my 2nd category license in my second rear of racing.

Considering all sports, what were the events or outcomes that most impacted your life in both negative and positive manners?

Attempting Everest was a tremendous adventure not only learning significantly about yourself but also as part of a team to get 2 people successfully to the summit.

Racing RAAM last year was also a great adventure lots of highs and made some life friends.

I try not to focus on any negatives in sport just move on to the next challenge.

Who are your heroes?  Why?

Lance Armstrong for his determination to fight cancer and also to come out of retirement to promote the Livestrong charity.

Nelson Mandela a very brave man and great leader.

What intimidates you most about RAAM?

Toughest endurance event on the planet - finding the balance between racing fast and not burning out.

Are you supporting an organization or Charity? Tell us why.

I am supporting the Sabre Charitable Trust who help provide education to poverty stricken children in the KEEA district of Ghana. We hope to raise enough funds to build a kindergarten for the children.
